Documentary tackles the importance of quality early learning opportunities for children and families.
Women United of Lewis County is inviting the community to a free screening of the movie, “No Small Matter” at The Chehalis Theater on February 26 at 6 p.m. The documentary tells the emotional, inspiring stories of American families who struggle to access quality early childhood education for their children and showcases the science that proves the importance of these years on our next generations. Its goal is to generate action around public and private solutions to invest in early learning and increase all children’s opportunities to succeed, live healthier lives and contribute to society.
“We are very pleased to bring this documentary to Lewis County,” said Annalee Tobey, President of Women United. Lifting women and children in Lewis County out of poverty is our mission and early education for our kids is a paramount step in order to give our kids a strong start in life.” Through poignant stories and surprising humor, the film lays out the overwhelming evidence for the importance of the first five years, and reveals how the failure to act on the evidence has resulted in an everyday crisis for American families, and a slow-motion catastrophe for the country. The film is firmly grounded in science, opening up the “black box” of what’s happening inside children’s brains with exciting, stimulating animation and the voices of compelling scientists, physicians, and ECE experts. It highlights positive, hopeful stories serving as motivational tools for our community. Change is necessary, critical, and attainable if we put our minds to it.
A discussion panel will convene immediately after the screening, comprised of local early education professionals. There is no cost to attend the screening. Dinner and refreshments will be available for purchase.
