Lewis PUD is hosting the 21st Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby: June 7th, 2014. The Derby will begin @ 9am with registration beginning at 8:30. No Catch & Release. No Adult Fishing during the Derby.
The Derby pond was partially excavated in September 2013, so the trout distribution will most likely be different in the past. There will be six additional trout releases following the Derby beginning on June 9th and continuing until right before the Fourth of July weekend.
Every Spring for the last 20+ years Lewis PUD and a host of community volunteers have hosted a local Kids Fishing Derby on Lake Scanewa located in East Lewis County.
Each morning of the derby hundreds of eager youngsters flip a line into the water in hopes of catching “the big one.” Throughout the day hundreds of fish are caught with the biggest trout weighing in at about 8 pounds. There are various competitions throughout the day for everyone to participate in. Kids can have their faces painted, learn how to clean fish, and participate in a number of mini-games around the area.
The event is also informative. In the past local rangers and community officials have donated their time to help educate families on a number of community related issues like the dangers of invasive weeds in our local waters and woods.
To get to the park, turn on Savio Rd. off Hwy 12 (mile marker 111). Turn right onto Kiona Rd., then right onto Falls Rd. Follow it to Champion 240 Rd.; left on Champion 240 Rd., another fast left into the park entrance.
There will be informational signs at each turn.

Note: Trout fishing is closed every year from March 1st through May 31st– Please refer to the state fishing regulations for more information.
