Celebrating 100 years


The Centennial will celebrate the achievements of the past 100 years, but it is really about the future. “It’s about kicking off a second century of stewardship for America’s national parks and for communities across the nation,” according to the National Park Service.

Mt. Rainier National Park joins millions of outdoor enthusiasts and National Park lovers as we recognize the past and prepare for future generations. You are invited to come and share activities at Mt. Rainier National Park designed to pay tribute to this important milestone of American heritage.

Here are the free activities prepared for you this month at Mt. Rainier National Park:

  • Free Park Entrance | August 25-28.
  • History Comes Alive: Evening programs about the people of Mt. Rainier, past and present | August 3, 4, 12 & 13 | Various locations. Times vary.
  • Centennial Speaker Series: Hear amazing stories of the programs of the National Parks | August 6 & 7, 8:30 p.m. | Paradise Inn
  • Shadows of the Past: Meet the characters at the Trail of the Shadows, Longmire | August 20, 8:30 p.m.
  • Music in the American Wild | August 12-14, Original musical productions inspired by America’s grandest locations.

    Friday, 7:30 p.m. Ohanapecosh Campground
    Saturday, 2 p.m. Jackson Visitor Center
    Sunday, 2 p.m. Sunrise Visitor Center

  • National Parks 100 | “Celebrate Rainier!” | August 25, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    Programs and activities at various locations throughout the park.
  • Centennial Star Party | August 27, Paradise Inn 8:45 p.m.
    Star-gazing with astronomers and park rangers.
