Annual Centralia Back To School Supply Drive August 12-15th

For the past seven years, a ‘Stuff the Bus’ Back to School Supply Drive is held in Centralia to benefit students in need.  Last year the supply drive collected over $3,000 worth of monetary donations and filled a bus full of clothing and school supplies for our Centralia School District students. Why is this so important?

Centralia School District is considered a high poverty district with over 80% of its students considered from low-income households. These students and many more, do not have the necessary items to be successful. The Stuff the Bus supply drive is the biggest contributor of school supplies to our district. The greatest thing about this drive is that the items collected are taken directly to the schools so that teachers and counselors can supply the students directly with their exact needs.

This year, the need for supplies has never been greater. We need your help! Students will likely be expected to split their time between school and home; leaving many families already struggling with the added cost of providing even more supplies than normal.  With the supplies low, and the need even higher this year, we need to be creative in how we collect supplies for our district.

Due to COVID-19 and the Stay Home Orders, the “Stuff the Bus” Back to School Supply Drive will look a little different. This year, we will be collecting donations and supplies at several drive-thru spots in our community; including at Althauser Rayan Abbarno, LLP parking lot on the corner of North Pearl Street/Magnolia Street on August 12, 13, and 14 from 10:00am-6:00pmFords Prairie on August 15th from 9:00am to 4:00pm; and Dick’s Brewery will have a drop box for drive-thru donations.  Additional partnerships and drive-thru locations are welcome.

Here is where you can help!  Please consider a monetary donation via cash or check to the Centralia ‘Stuff the Bus’ Back to School Supply drive. In addition to the City of Centralia, Centralia School District, Dick’s Brewing Company, and Althauser Rayan Abbarno, LLP, we collaborated with the United Way of Lewis County. All monetary donations can be made payable to the United Way of Lewis County, c/o Centralia Supply Drive, 450 NW Pacific Avenue, Chehalis, WA 98532 or coordinated through Holly Abbarno at (360) 280-7871 or Habbarno@centralia.wednet.edu.
